Amazon Grocery Prices September 2026: What Oil, Honey and Nuts Cost Per Kg
One hundred and fifty grocery listings read on one morning, almost none of them discounted. Honey spans fifteen-fold per kilo, and the smaller jar is usually the dearer one.
We read one hundred and fifty non-sponsored grocery listings on amazon.in on 11 September 2026, and the first thing to say about this shelf is what is missing from it: the discount badge. Only six of those one hundred and fifty listings carried a percentage at all, and all six sit on the coffee shelf. What replaces it is the per-unit price, and it does far more work than any badge does elsewhere - honey alone runs from Rs. 120 to Rs. 1,897 a kilo on pack prices that cluster near Rs. 400, and the smaller jar is usually the dearer one per kilo.

Four rules for buying groceries on Amazon
First: stop looking for a badge. On these five shelves almost nothing is discounted, and a listing without a percentage is the normal case rather than a missed sale. Second: divide. Price divided by pack size is the only number that compares two grocery listings, and Amazon prints its own version of it in small type under the price - our calculation matched it in 132 of 140 checkable cases. Third: on non-perishables, buy the largest pack you will actually finish, because every pack ladder on this page ran the same way. Fourth: check the net quantity in the product detail rather than the title - one coffee here is listed twice as a "200g pouch" at Rs. 379 and Rs. 1,137, and the shared rating count gives you no way to tell them apart - the same shared-pool trap we found on Myntra's sock shelf.

What we look for
We ignore the badge here, because there almost isn't one
Grocery is the one corner of Amazon India where the discount percentage is not the story. Across these five searches, only six of the one hundred and fifty listings displayed a discount at all — and all six of them sit on the coffee shelf. Everything else carries no strike-through and no percentage, on oil, honey, almonds and cashews alike. On every other Amazon shelf we have read, the badge is the first thing on the tile. Here it is absent, and what sits in its place is a per-unit price that most shoppers scroll past.
We compute the price per kilo and per litre ourselves
Every figure on this page comes from the selling price divided by the pack size printed in the product title. Amazon publishes its own per-unit price on most of these listings and our calculation matched it in 132 of the 140 cases we could check. We did our own arithmetic because Amazon's printed figure is not always quoted in the same unit across one shelf, and because on a discounted listing that same slot on the tile holds a struck-through MRP instead. Combo packs are excluded: a title reading “500g each” of two things cannot be divided honestly.
We check the pack-size ladder within a single brand
This is where the money is, and it runs both ways. DISANO's 500g honey at Rs. 119 looks half the price of its own 1kg jar at Rs. 229 and works out dearer per kilo — Rs. 238 against Rs. 229. Vedaka's almonds go Rs. 1,345/kg at 200g and Rs. 1,218/kg at 500g; Happilo's cashews Rs. 1,350/kg at 200g and Rs. 1,298/kg at 500g. Every card here states its pack size and its per-unit price side by side so the ladder is visible.
We do not treat cheapest-per-kilo as best
It usually is not. The cheapest almonds in this read work out at Rs. 539 per kilo and carry one rating; the two most-rated almond listings, at 19,198 and 14,090 ratings, are the two dearest per kilo on the shelf at Rs. 1,449 and Rs. 1,349. Nuts and honey are commodities where adulteration and grade are real and invisible from a listing, so we seat the well-evidenced dear options next to the cheap ones and say which is which.

Why are there no discounts on Amazon groceries?
Because the category does not price that way. In this read of 11 September 2026, one hundred and sixty of one hundred and eighty grocery listings displayed no discount percentage at all — no strike-through, no badge. Staples like oil, honey and nuts turn over fast at thin margins against a commodity price that moves on its own, so there is no inflated list price to mark down from, and Amazon shows a per-unit price instead. That absence is useful information: on this shelf, unlike on electronics or fashion, you are looking at something close to a real price. Prices change without notice.
What is the cheapest honey per kg on Amazon India?
In this read the cheapest was a two-kilo Vedaka pack at Rs. 479, which works out at Rs. 120 a kilo — roughly half the next cheapest and less than a third of the shelf median of Rs. 396. DISANO's one-kilo jar followed at Rs. 229 a kilo with 8,026 ratings, and Dabur's one-kilo, the most-rated honey on the shelf at 25,020 ratings, is Rs. 396. At the other end, an Al Shifa one-kilo is Rs. 1,897 — a 15.8x spread across a single search, with no badge anywhere to signal it.
Is a bigger pack always cheaper per kilo?
On these shelves it was, every time we could check. All four pack ladders in this read ran the same way: DISANO honey at Rs. 238 a kilo in a 500g jar against Rs. 229 in a 1kg; Vedaka almonds at Rs. 1,345 a kilo in 200g against Rs. 1,218 in 500g; Happilo cashews at Rs. 1,350 against Rs. 1,298; and a two-kilo honey pack at half the per-kilo price of most single kilos. The gaps run from four to ten percent. The caveat is real though: a bigger pack only saves money if you finish it, and honey crystallises and nuts go rancid.
How do I compare two grocery listings on Amazon?
Divide the price by the pack size, and compare that number instead of the sticker. Why is the same coffee listed at two very different prices?
We found exactly that and cannot fully explain it from the listings. Two separate Amazon listings, different ASINs, both titled Continental Coffee Xtra 200g Pouch, both showing the same 4.4-star average from the same 12,037 ratings, sell at Rs. 379 and Rs. 1,137 — Rs. 1,895 and Rs. 5,685 a kilo. Amazon pools reviews across listings it treats as variants of one product, so the rating count cannot tell them apart. The dearer listing may well be a multipack whose title does not say so. The practical lesson is the same either way: open the product detail and read the net quantity before you buy, because the tile will not tell you.
